What is an Alternative Learning Program?
Sequoia is known as a Alternative Learning Program. Students attend classes less than 25 hours per week, but complete and document additional time outside of the structured school day in order to be a full time student. This allows us to reduce class size to 17 students and provide students with additional schedule options. Students are also able to retrieve credit by taking additional classes as they make progress.
Students are able to choose from a wide variety of course offerings each month. Every day students meet with their Advisory teacher for academic counseling. This includes a monthly progress check and scheduling as needed. Students assume a larger portion of responsibility for their education and progress here at Sequoia, so these appointments provide them with the information and guidance needed to make informed choices about classes and work.
The structure described above serves students who need a different approach to education for a wide variety of reasons.
