The Penny Creek library is visited by every class on a weekly rotating basis. Our library is staffed by a full-time, certificated, Teacher-Librarian. Students come to the library with their entire class where a short instructional lesson is taught and time is given for the students to check out new books. The rotating schedule does make it tricky for students to remember when it is library day. To help students, parents and teachers remember, the specialist team came up with PALMS as an acronym for the rotation schedule (PE, ART, LIBRARY, MUSIC, STEM). Library day will follow Art.
Students can browse the shelves or use Follett Destiny software to search by title, author, subject or keyword to search for books. The Destiny software will also determine if a book is in the library and available for checkout.
Kinder and first grade students can check out one book at a time. First grade will begin checking out two books during 2nd semester. Second through fifth grade students may check out two books which they may keep for two weeks. If a student is finished with a book after the first week, they are encouraged to return it and choose a new book for the following week.
