  • Frequently Asked Questions

What are the music programs offered at North?

North offers Band, Choir, and Orchestra.  Feel free to explore the rest of the website to learn about what each group has to offer!

Are the programs open to all grade levels or just certain grades?

The program is open to all students, but we strongly encourage students to join as 6th graders to get the full benefits of what the program has to offer.  Our beginning groups (Beginning Band & Prelude Orchestra) are mostly made up of 6th grade students who continue on to the next ensembles as 7th & 8th graders.

Do students need prior experience to join?

No prior playing experience necessary — all experience levels are welcome!

How do students sign up for music?

Class registration is in March.  You will be receiving information on how to sign up from your classroom teacher or counselor.

As a future 6th grader at North, when and how do I audition for ensembles?

Please sign up for Beginning Band and/ or Prelude Orchestra and reach out to Ms. Cesarz (kcesarz@everettsd.org) for orchestra auditions or Mr. Cheever (ccheever@everettsd.org) for band auditions to be scheduled for April/ May.

When and how often do classes meet?

Classes meet daily and are a part of your regular schedule.  Music classes fulfill your arts requirements and are a year-long commitment.

What if I can’t decide between band, orchestra, or choir?

We encourage playing an instrument in 6th grade.  It is harder to catch up in band or orchestra as a 7th grader. Your music teacher will help you pick the instrument that’s best for you during the first few weeks of school.  Explore the band and orchestra pages to see what instruments interest you.

    Are ensembles full-year or semester-based?

All ensembles are year-long elective courses.

Can students participate in more than one ensemble?

We recommend beginning students choose one ensemble to participate in. Learning a new instrument deserves your full attention!

How many performances do students have per year?

The number of performances students have per year varies depending on the ensemble.  Beginning students have 3 concerts throughout the year (one in November/December, one in February, one in May).

Does the school provide instruments, or do students need to bring their own instruments?

We have some instruments available on a first-come, first-served basis.
