Superintendent's Message, May 1, 2025
-
Dear Everett Public Schools community,
As we welcome the month of May, my heart is full of gratitude and pride for everything our students, staff, and families have achieved together. While the finish line is in sight, the important work of teaching and learning continues full steam ahead. This month is rich with opportunities to recognize milestones and honor the dedicated people who make our schools thrive.
Let’s Connect: Help shape the future of our schools!
I invite you to join us at our next Let’s Connect event on Tuesday, May 6, from 6–7:30 p.m. at Heatherwood Middle School. This is a valuable opportunity to hear from district leaders, ask questions, and share your thoughts about the future of Everett Public Schools. Community voice is a vital part of our progress.
Testing, transitions, and tassels
Spring brings statewide testing, which I refer to as achievement season. These tests include the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) and Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS). Assessments help us understand how students are progressing and where support is needed. We encourage our students to show what they know and do their best.
Graduation season is just around the corner. This is a time of joy and reflection as we celebrate the Class of 2025 and all they have accomplished. We look forward to commemorating this milestone with our families and community.
Graduation ceremonies are scheduled as follows:
- STRIVE and Goal Program: Tuesday, June 11
- Sequoia High School: Thursday, June 12
- Everett High School (EHS), Jackson High School (JHS), and Cascade High School (CHS): Saturday, June 14
Preparing for Synergy – our new student information system
We are preparing to launch Synergy, our new student information system, this summer. Staff training is already underway to ensure a smooth transition.
We use a student information system to securely manage important data such as grades, attendance, class schedules, and contact information. Synergy will replace our current system with a more streamlined and user-friendly experience for both staff and families.
Families and students will use ParentVUE and StudentVUE to access real-time academic information, including grades and attendance.
To learn more, please visit our Synergy implementation webpage.
Celebrating our staff
May is also a time to honor the incredible professionals who serve our students every day.
- School Lunch Hero Day (May 3): Celebrating our nutrition services staff who keep students nourished and ready to learn
- Teacher Appreciation Week (May 6–10): Honoring the educators who inspire, challenge, and support our students with dedication and heart
- School Nurse Day (May 8): Recognizing the compassionate care our nurses provide every day
- School Communicators Day (May 10): Thanking the communication professionals who help keep families informed and connected
Each of these roles contributes to the success of our students and schools. We are deeply grateful for their service.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we finish the year strong.
Be safe and be well,
Dr. Ian B. Saltzman
