Elementary Instructional Materials

  • Everett Public Schools has adopted National Geographic Reach for Reading instructional materials, developed by CENGAGE Learning® to support and guide teaching and learning in our kindergarten – fifth grade classrooms. This comprehensive core literacy program aligns English Language Arts Common Core State Standards (ELA CCSS) in Reading, Writing, Language, and Speaking and Listening.  The integration of 21st Century Skills, collaboration for authentic engagement, and deeper learning strategies support the goal of preparing students for success in college, careers, and civic life. The Reach for Reading lesson structure emphasizes the intentional use of high leverage best practice strategies and includes a robust digital platform with resources for teachers, students, and parents.

Collect·Interpret·Apply (C.I.A.) developed by Read Side by Side® is an additional instructional resource used by third through fifth grade students. The focus on text structure allows all readers to access rich, complex literature. A month-long C.I.A. unit is integrated into the year-long instructional maps to provide an in-depth analysis of a novel where students study all aspects of narrative literature to improve comprehension, vocabulary, and written response skills.
