The Department of Student Support Services is dedicated to providing comprehensive, integrated support to enhance student well-being, academic success, and emotional growth. We coordinate a wide range of prevention and intervention programs that address the cognitive, behavioral, social, emotional, health, safety, and academic needs of all students.

    Our department focuses on:

    • Social-Emotional Learning (SEL): Implementing district-wide SEL initiatives such as RULER and Second Step to foster emotional intelligence, resilience, and interpersonal skills.
    • Mental Health Services: Expanding access to mental health support through partnerships with community organizations, on-site therapists at some schools, and targeted intervention strategies to reduce crisis incidents and promote wellness.
    • Substance Use Prevention and Intervention: Offering programs and resources to prevent substance use and providing support and intervention strategies for students who are struggling with substance use challenges.
    • Suicide Prevention: Leading proactive efforts, including the UW Forefront in the Schools Program, to equip staff and students with the tools to recognize and respond to mental health crises.
    • 504 Plans and Disability Services: Ensuring equitable access to academic support and accommodations for students with disabilities through coordinated Section 504 processes
    • Collaboration and Community Engagement: Building strong partnerships with families, school staff, and community resources to create a comprehensive, inclusive support system.

Through these initiatives, we strive to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment that promotes student success, well-being, and a sense of belonging. Our goal is to empower students to overcome challenges, engage in learning, and achieve their fullest potential.
